Let it be known that we are believers in the idea of the right tool for the job, and OG disciples of the quiver school of ski ownership. That said, we realize not everyone enjoys the same privilege, and even we get analysis paralysis when it’s time to leave with a single pair—whether we’re just going down the road or packing for an international flight. 
The Commander 102 offers the best characteristics of its freeride-comp lineage: incredible confidence and composure at speed, race-worthy power and edge hold, and plenty of rope to hang yourself as high off the deck as you want, trimmed back just enough to be surprisingly easy to pilot out of whatever sketchiness you get yourself into. Its dimensions are the Goldilocks result of spending countless mornings debating between the hardpack-ripping 98 and the big-line bomber 108, hoping the conditions match our decision—and finally concluding that we’d like to keep our options open.   
We’re not implying that the Commander 102 is everything to all people. It is first and foremost a ski designed to excel in punchy, chunky, and choppy conditions. It’s built to go fast, push the limits of your envelope, and put big airs to bolts. You can think of it as a Commander 98 with extra floor space, or as a cinched-down, tightened up Commander 108, but it doesn’t really matter. The Commander 102 is both, and neither. It’s simply awesome, whether you pull up to bulletproof boilerplate or sloppy mashed potatoes, and it’s part of the family from now on. Get used to it.
